Safety Cabaret
Safety training, but make it a show. 🎭
Safety Cabaret is Backstage PASS training built around the people who actually do the work.
Forget sitting in a classroom watching someone click through a PowerPoint. At Safety Cabaret, safety comes to life in the theatre, on the stage, and in the middle of the work.
We bring industry professionals together for a hands-on day of learning, doing, asking questions, and looking at the work from a safety-first perspective.
A little training.
A little theatre.
A whole lot of backstage.
Safety Cabaret combines practical safety training with real-time backstage activities, including:
🚚 Truck loading and unloading
💡 Lighting installation
🎧 Audio installation
🔨 Stage carpentry
🎭 Stage management
👀 Hazard identification
🤝 Working safely as a team
Rather than talking about safety in isolation, we put it right in the middle of the work.
Because that's where safety matters.
Built for the workers
Safety Cabaret was created with one thing in mind:
Safety training should work for the people doing the work.
Theatre and live event professionals don't always have the time, money, or ability to travel to a major city for training. Yet the hazards, responsibilities, and challenges don't disappear just because you're working in a smaller community.
So we're bringing the training to the community.
Safety Cabaret is designed to be practical, accessible, affordable, and relevant with training that reflects what actually happens backstage.
Taking safety beyond the big city
For too long, professional training opportunities have been concentrated in major urban centres.
That leaves rural and smaller arts communities travelling farther, spending more, and sometimes simply going without.
We think there's a better way.
Safety Cabaret is designed as a model that can be brought into theatres and arts spaces in communities across Vancouver Island and beyond.
A local venue.
Local workers.
Industry professionals.
Real work.
Better safety.
This is Safety Cabaret.
It's not just a safety course.
It's a chance to get backstage, get involved, and look at the work we do through a different lens.
Because safety isn't something we tack onto the end of a production.
Safety is part of the production.
And when we all know how to spot it, talk about it, and act on it?
Everybody gets to go home after the show. 🎭
Backstage PASS
Don't just act safe. Be safe.
