Backstage PASS is excited to introduce Safety Cabaret, a new training program built around safety and focussed on workers. The session will take place Saturday January 10, 2026 at the Ladysmith Little Theatre.

Safety Cabaret is our first event under our ALL ACCESS banner. ALL ACCESS is our program to bring safety content to industry in a flexible and affordable way.

The goal of Safety Cabaret is to host an event that is accessible and cost effective for rural communities to host in their own spaces. For far too long training for theatre arts has been siloed in major city centers, leaving our smaller arts communities out of the loop. We chose Ladysmith Little Theatre to showcase this concept in a small community venue. They have donated the space and equipment for this project, in return we are helping with improvements to their technical package and offering free training.

Safety Cabaret will combine safety training with real-time activities. Truck loading, lighting and audio install, stage carpentry and stage management will all be woven together in a fun environment supported by industry professionals. This event is scalable and flexible. We can add professionals from any discipline and tailor topics to a community's needs.

The grand plan is to take this model out to communities across the country. To do this we need your help.

Promote: Send this out far and wide! Lets get bums in seats and smiles on faces.

Sponsor: Join us as a sponsor to keep this training affordable for emerging theatre practitioners and our rural communities! Email Don@backstage-pass.ca if you are interested in supporting us.

Participate: Add your voice to the conversation by joining our monthly town hall What Would Don Do?

The first Wednesday of the month we gather to educate, share and inspire. This is where I extract the topics and scenarios for the training we offer. Sign up soon!
